Today (5/20) we landed in Taipei early in the morning. We started our day by eating in a traditional Taiwanese restaurant. Jenn and I grabbed a bunch of different traditional foods to split and try together. The food was delicious and I liked just about everything that we tried. Following breakfast, we boarded the train to see the Chiang Kai-shek memorial.

I found it really interesting to see the memorial and learn about all the history behind him, as well as his impact on Taiwan. Especially so, I found it interesting that when he became the President of Taiwan, the money that the Taiwanese people had lower substantially. This is interesting and surprising to me because I would assume when this happened there would be rebellion or a civilian uprising but it seems as though no such thing happened. After observing the memorial and museum, we went to Taipei 101 which is the tallest building in Taiwan. I found the view to be very pretty, as you could see the whole city from the building. Following this, we headed down to the food court where some people got some lunch. Although I didn’t get lunch, I got some coffee in order to keep myself awake. Next, we arrived at the hotel where we checked into our rooms and were given some time before we all had to meet for dinner. Kyla, Malli, Jenn, Dylan, Mikey, and I all wondered over to 7-11, but not any regular 7-11, it was hello kitty themed. It was interesting to see how they have some themes for their 7-11’s and even have products that represent that theme. Finally, we departed for dinner at the Grand Hotel. I found the hotel to be gorgeous, but unfortunately the food that was there was not my favorite.
