Day 0.5, New York – Flying In

This past weekend has been hectic to say the least. I got home from Bucknell on the night of the 14th and had about 4 days (3 full days) to unpack my things from Bucknell, see some friends from home, and pack for Taiwan. I’m not the best at packing for a trip, let alone within 3 days for a 3 week trip halfway across the globe, but I did it!
Getting to JFK was also quite stressful. For our 1:25AM, we had to be at the airport by 9:30PM for check in. I live in the metro area of NJ so I left at around 7:45 and arrived at JFK at around 9:10 only to circle the terminals looking for parking for another 30 minutes! Turns out I wasn’t in trouble though, because Professor Chen and Professor Young ended up being much later than I.
Once we all checked in and went through TSA we had some time to breathe and fuel up for the flight. Amma, Kyla, and I went by a place that had some Italian-American food and an attached Dunkin. They got New York style pizzas, I got a delicious meatball sub, and we all had some caffeine.
The flight itself wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. Despite the cramped seating and the 2 inch recline, I think I managed to get a total of 8 hours of sleep. To kill the time I was awake, I re-watched a few episodes of the first season of You, played some phone games, and listened to music.
For my in-flight meals, I had the seafood and rice as my first meals and the chicken congee as my second—both were Chinese style meals. By general standards of food, I give it 2 out of 5 stars. By airplane food standards, I’d say 4 out of 5 stars.
Through the flight, my neck hurt from the awkward angles I fell asleep in and my tailbone was suffering from sitting for 16 hours straight. By the time we landed I was itching to set my feet on some solid ground. The loud humming of the plane was driving me crazy and I seriously needed to stretch my legs.
