On Day 4, we swap back to the business side of our learning objectives in Taiwan. The morning of day 4 was particularly hard for me because I got sick in the morning from something I ate. I powered through as we headed to the annual Taiwan technology expo held yearly in Taipei. This place was cool to see all the latest innovations of modern technology in Taiwan so far. I saw some gaming technology and contributions to the field of AI which were super interesting and engaging. After the tech expo, our group went and did some shrimp fishing. This event was enjoyable, being able to fish for our shrimp, but it was ethically questionable. After we caught our shrimp, we had to prep them ourselves, and all of the prepping was done while the shrimp were still alive. This made me feel bad for the shrimp because it looked like they would jump and react to the things painfully done to them. This goes against a lot of Buddhist teachings and means, according to Buddhism, we should expect to undergo the same kind of torture in a future life in our reincarnation cycle of the wheel of samsara. I personally hope a lifetime of good deeds can make up for what I have done, so I don’t have to go through what the shrimp went through.
Hope you are feeling better now!
