Day 9: National Taichung Theater and Fengchia Night Market

We explored the National Taichung Theater late in the morning. We couldn’t enter the building when we first got there so we had to stay outside and do something else until we could. I took two laps around the theater looking at the surroundings and listening to music as that is one of my favorite things to do. I eventually stopped and went to the outdoors stadium thingy as everyone else was there doing a talent show. April is apparently double-jointed which honestly adds up; Mikey can do a walking handstand which in hindsight seems obvious as he’s great at wrestling and that’s all they had me do in warmups for wrestling in high school. I got to listen to Prof Chen sing in person for once and it was very beautiful, and Ayden told a funny realistic story about his experience on a NYC subway. I could definitely vouch for him about those experiences there, but we eventually were let inside of the theater.

The theater itself was very beautiful as we got to explore all of the floors of the theater, including the rooftop which had an amazing view of the area around us. The area felt very modern and exhibited a different type of vibe compared to the other areas we had been to. They had a gift shop area on the first floor in which I (of course) bought some souvenirs for my mother to have when I got back to America.

We went to the Lukang Historic District afterwards and this was just a walking marathon for us. There were a lot of alleyways to go into that were filled with different stalls and temples. One thing that I have noticed about some of the art stalls is that they are filled with Artificial Intelligence (AI) art pieces, which is currently a controversial topic in the art community as people question whether or not AI is actual art. Anyways, we went inside another temple called the Lukang Tianhou (天后)Temple。 On the top floor of the temple was a god that students and parents of students prayed to for good fortune for their exams.

We later went to the Fengchia Night Market. It was a night market that was right next to what I believed to be a university, which probably explained why the prices were a little higher than usual. I learned that April has never tried pork outside of bacon and never will apparently, and that my aim at shooting guns get better drunk. We pretty much all drank at the night market and hung out afterwards for the night, which I believe to be a successful night.
