Taiwan: Day 10 – First Impressions of Kaohsiung

My first day in Kaohsiung was admittedly not as exciting as some of our other days in Taiwan. We took the high speed rail to the city and then visited the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, which had some really interesting exhibitions. There was one in particular that I really enjoyed — the artist had created dream-like, colorful paintings that displayed undertones of religion and Buddhism. Though I liked the museum I do wish there were more displays, as I was able to see all the exhibits in a rather short amount of time. After the museum we headed to our hotel, where I stayed for most of the remainder of the day. I did get out to find something to eat, but I honestly had a difficult time finding a restaurant with food I liked, as seafood seems to be really popular here and that’s not a genre of dish I’m the biggest fan of. After seeing some of Kaohsiung I can definitely feel the more slowed down energy to it — it’s much less hectic than Taipei or Taichung, and the streets are less busy and seem less densely populated. Though I had a more relaxed day I’m excited to see more of Kaohsiung in our coming days, and really be able to compare it with the other cities I’ve visited here thus far.
