Day 13: Return to Taipei, Temple Visits and the 228 memorial Museum

We started the day out with a bullet train ride back to Taipei as it was the end of our time in Gaoxiong. Because we took the express train we got to experience the full speed of the bullet train. After we arrived back in Taipei we made our way to a Confucius temple. An interesting part of this temple is that there is no center god or being but rather the teachings of Confucius where spread throughout the temple.

The next temple that we visited was a Daoist temple that was very well preserved. This one was pretty much the same as the other temples that we visited but with a focus on the medicine god this time. Most of the other gods where also there like Mazu and others.

After that temple we made our way over to the 228 memorial museum. Prior to coming to today I had never heard of this event before. We had gone over the complex and confusing history of Taiwan with multiple colonial occupations. It was very striking that this event was considered taboo pretty much until the late 90s early 2000s. Husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters being taken away Infront of their loved ones to never be seen again. Most of those who had someone taken away would not get closure until the late 90s and 2000 and in some cases none at all. The museum displayed a few of countless amounts to do the timeframe of this even finally coming into light.
