Day 12 was one of my favorite days of our trip so far. We began by traveling to this mountain to visit some historic sites in a small town that was once very popular due to its gold mine located on the mountain. When the gold ran out, however, the people left the city, making it a ghost town. Now reinhabited, we must explore this massive market, which is part of the town bursting at the seams with people and tourism. It was cool to see tourists and locals alike going about their day-to-day lives while discovering many interesting things in the various shops for myself. We left the mountain and went to a nearby town, where we had the honor of making and lighting lanterns with people in our class. I made a lantern with 2 of my peers and our tour guide, and it was one of my favorite experiences of our trip so far. It felt awesome to be able to customize and make a wish on our lanterns and see them fly off into the distance; this will be one of my core memories from this trip. We ended the night with more fun by going to a karaoke bar and singing our hearts out, a perfect way to end the night.
