Day 14 started off with a visit to studio 76, a film and media company that specializes in entertainment and smart media. One thing that I found significant was that the major markets for the developed films are in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Mainland China. I feel like it makes sense that more films are sold to surrounding countries than places in Europe or the US. I also thought it was super interesting how strict censorship policies are present in China that make it so that certain scenes are required to be removed from the film. One example was ghosts. Only films from before a certain year are allowed to contain ghosts since they do not believe in ghosts in the modern time. This means that films developed by Studio76 with ghosts in them can not be shown in Mainland China. I also found it interesting that Studio76 also owns Studio886 which is a digital media distribution service. They started this company because Studio76 needed another source of revenue for the company, and it also functions as a data collection center.

After our visit to Studio76, we ventured all the way to Jiufen Old Street in which we shopped around and sampled some tea! We then headed to light lanterns which was such a fun experience! I enjoyed being able to write my wishes on the lantern as it caused me to reflect on what I really want in life! The night ended with KARAOKE which was SO much fun!! Big thank you to Prof. Chen for organizing it. I had an amazing time and I feel like it was a good way to continue to get to know my classmates. Jenn and I also got matching “I Heart Taiwan” Shirts that we wore to karaoke and I am super excited to bring mine home as a souvenir!!
