Day 10 – May 29, 2025

We started our travel day by making our way to the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts and the museum itself is spacious and thoughtfully curated, with both traditional and contemporary works that really stick with you. One of my favorite parts was a darkened room filled with projectors showing footprints and slow movements. It was Tsai Ming-Liang’s “Walking Meditation” piece, which created such a tranquil and introspective atmosphere. The way the projectors cast each footstep as if in slow motion felt deeply meditative, reminding me how often we forget to simply be present. Another powerful work I saw was Xie […]

Day 9 – May 28, 2025

This morning began with a visit to the Taichung National Theater also known as the Taichung Opera House and it completely exceeded my expectations. The building itself is a work of art. From the outside, it looks like something sculpted by wind or water which was the concept apparently, all smooth curves and organic forms, with no hard edges in sight. Inside, I took my time exploring every floor. Each level showed something different from small and quiet pockets of light and shadow to winding hallways and an opening to the outside on the rooftop that had a garden and […]

Day 8 – May 27, 2025

We started our day early, waking at 6:45 a.m. to get ready for a day full of travel and sight seeing. Before boarding the train to Hsinchu, we had breakfast at the Plaza International Hotel, which was quiet and softly lit in the early morning. I kept it simple just got a buttery croissant with strong black coffee that was enough to wake me up fully without needing sugar. It was a really good and dainty meal and surprisingly refined for a hotel breakfast. There’s something grounding about those quiet morning moments before a full travel day. The hotel had […]

Day 7 – May 26, 2025

Today’s visit to Hong Jann Printing Co., located near Dihua Street, gave us a look into Taiwan’s continued investment in both industrial precision and cultural continuity. Professor Chens brother in laws factory specializes in high-volume paper printing and everything from advertising materials to mass-market manga, which is one of its most profitable outputs. The printing line follows a cyan–magenta–yellow sequence, which is choice that reflects standard CMYK offset printing practices. There is an almost choreographed rhythm to the process: sheets pass through multiple presses before being folded and trimmed, with attention to margin alignment essential in manga, where even slight […]

Day 6 – May 25, 2025

This morning started off a bit differently we woke up early and has class and managed to write two essays before heading out for the day. It felt like a lot of pressure because we only had 50 minutes but I had a a lot to say so it wasn’t that bad. Later we visited National Taiwan University (NTU), which is the most prestigious university in the country and the alma mater of Professor Chen. It was the day after their graduation, so the campus still had that celebratory atmosphere flowers, decorations, and proud families taking photos. What I noticed […]

Day 5 – May 24, 2025

Today we visited Taipei National University of the Arts, and it was a really eye-opening experience. We met two theater students, David and Daniel, who were incredibly kind and showed us around the campus. From the outside, the buildings looked old and worn down honestly, some parts seemed like they were crumbling. It made me realize how lucky we are to have the facilities we do at Bucknell. David and Daniel had to walk around in the rain all day just to get from one class to another. But once we stepped inside, it was a completely different building. The […]
