Art, Animation, and a Touch of Nostalgia – A Special Visit to TNNUA – Day 5 {5/24}

Guess who… me! Today I just want to share one of the experiences that happened today. We had the opportunity to meet up with a few students from Taipei National University of the Arts and got the chance to tour around their campus. During the tour, we were able to view some of the art exhibits that showcased existing works by the students, and let me tell you, it was phenomenal. Not to mention, one of the pieces was a painting animation, and I got to see both the individual drawing frames that made up the animation as well as […]

Day 7: Printing and Night Markets with Jennifer and Hanna

We went to a small printing company to learn more about the manufacturing process here in Taiwan. This company had a relatively small employee count as most of their manufacturing process was done by machines. They showed off some of their work and how it was done through automation. I actually knew some of the works they were printing as popular manga (Japanese comics) and anime (Black Butler and Call of the Night). Such a small factory had major outlets wanting to print from them in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and some personal orders from the US. They even manufactured a […]

Day 6: Reflection, National Taiwan University, and Speaking Chinese at a Massage Parlor

This Sunday morning, we had class at 9am for reflection of our first few days of Taiwan and what we picked up on at these temples and areas we went to. I was a little late to class as both Mikey and I did not wake up on time for it. We were still able to participate and share our thoughts on what we learned and thought from our Taiwan experience. I especially reflected on Day 2 and 4 as my interest in technology appeared again this morning. Afterwards, we wrote these reflections onto paper to get a rawer idea […]

Day 5: University of the Arts and Nightlife

Today, we decided to visit the Taipei National University of the Arts with a former student, David, and a current student, Daniel. They were happy enough to volunteer to show us around their campus and the contributions the students have made towards their artistic journey. We were shown around a couple of the exhibits created by students and the art was astounding and also a little perplexing. The exhibit displayed art from many different methods of art storytelling. Some told a more personal story with its art, like the history of important figures and/or family members and their life in […]

Day 4:Tech Convention and Shrimp Fishing

While I have been a fan of the cultural impact and the religious significance of the country, the technology side has always been a favorite for me as I have always loved computers and gaming since I was a kid. The tech convention we went to exemplified how important Taiwan actually is on the global scale. We went to convention with a member of Gigbyte, a computer manufacturing company that, with the help of Nvidia, work on the production and creation of computer chips. They talked about the what goes on in the process for making computer softwares and their […]

Taiwan: Day 11 – Kaohsiung Temples & Beach

Our second day in Kaohsiung was more packed with activities. We started the day with visiting a pond surrounded by temples and pagodas, and explored the famous Dragon and Tiger Pagodas. There were large “statues” of a dragon and tiger on the entrances of both buildings, and we entered through their mouths to get in. The pagodas had 7 floors and had really gorgeous interiors and exteriors. There was also a great view of the pond, mountains, and cities outside, and I took dozens of pictures to try to capture everything I saw. We headed to two other temples after […]
