Day 5 – May 24, 2025

Today we visited Taipei National University of the Arts, and it was a really eye-opening experience. We met two theater students, David and Daniel, who were incredibly kind and showed us around the campus. From the outside, the buildings looked old and worn down honestly, some parts seemed like they were crumbling. It made me realize how lucky we are to have the facilities we do at Bucknell. David and Daniel had to walk around in the rain all day just to get from one class to another. But once we stepped inside, it was a completely different building. The […]

Day 3: Taiwanese’s Religions and Temples

SInce we’ve been in Taiwan, we have mostly learned about the political landscape and history of the country. One thing we have not looked into are the religions and their history inside of the country. To do this, we decided to go to important religious temples of both Buddhism and Daoism to spot not only the differences but their significances towards the people of Taiwan. Buddhism and Daoism are the major religions in Taiwan, with their being many temples all over Taipei City and locals praying inside of them around any part of the day, especially in the morning. We […]

Day 4

On Day 4, we swap back to the business side of our learning objectives in Taiwan. The morning of day 4 was particularly hard for me because I got sick in the morning from something I ate. I powered through as we headed to the annual Taiwan technology expo held yearly in Taipei. This place was cool to see all the latest innovations of modern technology in Taiwan so far. I saw some gaming technology and contributions to the field of AI which were super interesting and engaging. After the tech expo, our group went and did some shrimp fishing. […]

5/24

Today we visited the Taiwan Art school and met with Daniel, a current theater student, and David, a recent graduate. We started the day with a tour, where we saw the different buildings for each field of study. We then went into two different art museums on campus. The first was a student art gallery, where there were two stories of student’s abstract art on display. The second was another museum that was more focused on traditional looking paintings. What I found really interesting about both of the museums was that none of the artwork was behind glass or roped […]

5/23

Today we visited a technology convention where we went on a tour of the Gigabyte Technology company led by Liam Quinn. We got to see new technology from Gigabyte that submerges computer centers in water to combat overheating. I am not very technologically inclined, so it was interesting to hear about recent advancements in the industry, and still surprises me what engineers have been able to innovate and the capacity that these new learning language models have.  Later in the day, we visited a shrimp fishing farm. This was a significant experience for me because I have never been fishing […]

Day 5: University visit, the Jade market, and the Raohe night market

View From the Top of Taipei National University of the Arts A university student and alum gave as a tour of the campus despite the rain. We got to get a an idea of the lay out of the campus and also got to see some of the art work created by the students. I have never actually been on a college campus that is fully dedicated to the arts but it was interesting to see pieces of work throughout the entire campus and not contained with in a building or two. With the students that we met and with […]
