Day 4

Taiwan computer convention (Gigabyte booth visit): You always hear and read about the tech that is pouring out of Taiwan and the constantly increasing demand for it in light of the new AI boom. It was very interesting to actually see what this tech looks like and get a layman’s explanation on how it works. There is an increased demand for not only quantity of product but also quality and capability. AI training now works these machines harder than anything before which creates large amounts of heat and we where introduced to some of the solutions to this problem. One […]

Taiwan Day four (5/23)

Today (5/23), I started the morning off with a walk with Kyla, Malli, Mikey, and myself. We walked alongside the river and spotted a lot of different animals (fish, birds, turtles). We walked about 3 miles down the river before crossing back over into the city. We are breakfast at this traditional ‘hole in the wall’ restaurant, where the cook gave us a bunch of different dishes to try. I thought all of the food was really good and I’m glad we decided to stop there and eat. Here are some different views and the breakfast that we tried. After […]

Day 3 in Taiwan

On our third day in Taipei, we visited two temples, Lungshan Temple and Xingtian Temple, as well as the palace museum.  Breakfast ft. Kyla and the view of the city skyline. Our first stop of the day was to Lungshan Temple. This temple was the older of the two and was an interesting integration of both buddhism and daoism. I thought that the intricate architecture of the temple was super cool, and I noticed that the main colors present were grey, red, and gold which was similar to that of the second temple we visited. The physical deities, all in […]

Day Three – Taipei

Day Three was our first day visiting Taipei’s temples, although I had a sneak peek the night before as I had visited the local temple dedicated to Mazu, Tianhou Temple, with Malli and Prof. Young. It’s deceptively small on the outside, but it opens up into a wide courtyard with a waterfall leading to a koi pond and an open area for worship and divination once you step in. This temple also had the strongest scent of incense: Xingtian, the second temple we visited on Day Three, was one of the first to stop offering incense for environmental services. In […]

Day 4 – May 23, 2025

Today was a cool experience because we attended a large tech convention featuring some of the most advanced technology companies in the world. One of the highlights was visiting Nvidia’s booth, which looked more like a futuristic space station than a typical convention setup. It completely stood out from the rest which was their goal so it would attract more people to the booth. The design, vibrant lighting, and high-tech feel was everywhere. At the Nvidia exhibit, we got to learn about their GPU powerhouse designed specifically for AI workloads. They also showcased innovations around the future of computing with […]

Day 1, Taipei – Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Taipei 101, and The Grand Hotel

As soon as we stepped foot off the plane, we were hit with the intense Taiwan heat and humidity in the jetway—a taste of what we were about to experience in our walks through Taipei. We had about one more hour of air conditioning as we went through immigration and baggage claim and made our rounds to the bathroom before we got on our tour bus. I made the unfortunate decision to wear jeans without packing a change of shorts in my carry-on bag, so I savored the cool air it while I had it.  At arrivals, we met with […]
