Day Three – Taipei

Day Three was our first day visiting Taipei’s temples, although I had a sneak peek the night before as I had visited the local temple dedicated to Mazu, Tianhou Temple, with Malli and Prof. Young. It’s deceptively small on the outside, but it opens up into a wide courtyard with a waterfall leading to a koi pond and an open area for worship and divination once you step in. This temple also had the strongest scent of incense: Xingtian, the second temple we visited on Day Three, was one of the first to stop offering incense for environmental services. In […]

Day 4 – May 23, 2025

Today was a cool experience because we attended a large tech convention featuring some of the most advanced technology companies in the world. One of the highlights was visiting Nvidia’s booth, which looked more like a futuristic space station than a typical convention setup. It completely stood out from the rest which was their goal so it would attract more people to the booth. The design, vibrant lighting, and high-tech feel was everywhere. At the Nvidia exhibit, we got to learn about their GPU powerhouse designed specifically for AI workloads. They also showcased innovations around the future of computing with […]

Day 1, Taipei – Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Taipei 101, and The Grand Hotel

As soon as we stepped foot off the plane, we were hit with the intense Taiwan heat and humidity in the jetway—a taste of what we were about to experience in our walks through Taipei. We had about one more hour of air conditioning as we went through immigration and baggage claim and made our rounds to the bathroom before we got on our tour bus. I made the unfortunate decision to wear jeans without packing a change of shorts in my carry-on bag, so I savored the cool air it while I had it.  At arrivals, we met with […]

Day 3

Long Shan si (龍山寺) , xin tian gong (行天宫), The palace museum Long Shan Si: Upon arrival the first thing that you notice is the great level of detail in everything. This is interesting as the level of was very different in xin tian gong. The temple had a central incense burn which is the center to most temples. Immediately when entering the temple on the right or the tiger side there is an area to buy offering of snacks and such. The temple was made up of 3 main building. The bell tower used to signify the opening of […]

Day 1: Early in Taiwan and Temples

I arrived a day early for this trip as I have been in Southeast Asia and Australia since January for a different abroad experience. The different time zones of the US and Singapore caused the mishap in flights, so I got to explore Taiwan for an entire day by myself. Sadly, I could not explore as much as I want. I did not get to sleep on my 1am flight so I had no energy when I arrived at the hotel. After taking a nap in my hotel room and waking up at 5pm, I explored the local area and […]

Day 0.5, New York – Flying In

This past weekend has been hectic to say the least. I got home from Bucknell on the night of the 14th and had about 4 days (3 full days) to unpack my things from Bucknell, see some friends from home, and pack for Taiwan. I’m not the best at packing for a trip, let alone within 3 days for a 3 week trip halfway across the globe, but I did it! Getting to JFK was also quite stressful. For our 1:25AM, we had to be at the airport by 9:30PM for check in. I live in the metro area of […]
