Taiwan Day five (5/24)

Today (5/24), we started our day by boarding the train and heading the Taiwan Art School. Unfortunately, once we got onto the train it started pouring and I did not have a rain jacket. Luckily, we were able to find umbrella’s at the train station, but I my feet still seemed to get wet. We met two students, one who was a graduate and one who was a senior, at the train station and they helped us get onto a bus and head to the campus. Once we arrived at the campus, they let us walk around and explain to […]

Day 3

Today, we shifted from analyzing the types of business in Taiwan to learning more about Taiwanese religion. We started our day by visiting a temple that blends Daoist and Buddhist customs in a temple constructed during the Japanese colonial period. I took a Buddhist religion course with one of the leaders on this trip, Professor Young. So I found seeing the things I learned in his real-life class particularly interesting. I loved the beautiful architecture and the purposeful placement of the different dragon and phoenix sculptures on the roof of the building. We followed this temple visit with one more […]

Day 2

Day 2 of Taiwan felt a lot more impactful than the first day. We started our day very excitedly by going to the A&T building. This building functions like an embassy for people wishing to do business overseas, from America to Taiwan and vice versa. We learned a lot about the crucial relationship between America and Taiwan in a very engaging way, understanding how much both countries benefit from helping one another. I loved this part of the day because I had no idea how important Taiwan was to America, despite Taiwan being so small and far away. We piggybacked […]

Day 4

Taiwan computer convention (Gigabyte booth visit): You always hear and read about the tech that is pouring out of Taiwan and the constantly increasing demand for it in light of the new AI boom. It was very interesting to actually see what this tech looks like and get a layman’s explanation on how it works. There is an increased demand for not only quantity of product but also quality and capability. AI training now works these machines harder than anything before which creates large amounts of heat and we where introduced to some of the solutions to this problem. One […]

Taiwan Day four (5/23)

Today (5/23), I started the morning off with a walk with Kyla, Malli, Mikey, and myself. We walked alongside the river and spotted a lot of different animals (fish, birds, turtles). We walked about 3 miles down the river before crossing back over into the city. We are breakfast at this traditional ‘hole in the wall’ restaurant, where the cook gave us a bunch of different dishes to try. I thought all of the food was really good and I’m glad we decided to stop there and eat. Here are some different views and the breakfast that we tried. After […]

Day 3 in Taiwan

On our third day in Taipei, we visited two temples, Lungshan Temple and Xingtian Temple, as well as the palace museum.  Breakfast ft. Kyla and the view of the city skyline. Our first stop of the day was to Lungshan Temple. This temple was the older of the two and was an interesting integration of both buddhism and daoism. I thought that the intricate architecture of the temple was super cool, and I noticed that the main colors present were grey, red, and gold which was similar to that of the second temple we visited. The physical deities, all in […]
