5/28

Today we started our day with a tour of the National Taichung Theater. I was amazed by the architecture of both the inside and outside of the building. On our way in, we saw a bus arrive and employees immediately went to greet them as they got off the bus. Additionally, the fountains outside the opera house turned on. Just based on these small observations of how they were treated, we could tell their importance and that they are highly respected figures in Taiwan. Following the tour of the opera house, we visited Lukang Historical Town. What I found most […]

Taiwan Day nine (5/28)

Today (5/28) we started the day slightly later than normal but it was good to sleep in for a while. We headed to breakfast and I tried a little bit of everything but I was not a big fan of the food in this hotel. We then packed up and headed to an opera house. I thought it was cool and funny that we were not originally allowed to enter because someone important was there and all the employees we out front and turning on the fountains. We headed down to the outside theater where some people put on performances. […]

Day 8: Travel Day/Science Park/Temple/Night Market

Our Day started out early with a 6:45 wake up to catch a bullet train to Xinzhu Science park. Xinzhu is 1 of 13 science parks in Taiwan and it is also the biggest. It currently has 600+ companies in the park. These could be companies HQs, research and development, factories or any other kind of building. We started the tour with a visit to small museum that showcased some of the technology that is being or has been developed in the science park. There are 6 main fields/industries in the science park; IC industry, Computers , Communications, electronics, pressions […]

Day 8 in Taiwan

Today was a busy travel day. We woke up early to ride on the High Speed Rail to Hsinchu in which we got to see Hsinchu Science Park. Our first stop when we arrived was to the Science Park Exploration Museum in which we got to see an array of new inventions that were being made at the park, one of which was a Scooter powered by Hydrogen gas. I thought that this was a cool idea to promote sustainability, however given that the scooter could only travel 80 km and its top speed was 15 km/hr, it doesn’t seem […]

Day 7 in Taiwan

Today we hit one full week of being in Taiwan and it still feels so surreal to me. I feel like it has been ages since we all met up in the JFK airport, and we have done and seen so much since then. Our day started out with a visit to Professor Chen’s brother-in-law’s printing company, Hong Jaan, in which we had the opportunity to see the manufacturing side of businesses. It was cool to hear about how the products that they print have shifted over the past years as we have developed more and more technology. This shift […]

Day Eight – Hsinchu & Taichung

It was finally time to visit Hsinchu Science Park (HSP). The trip by high speed rail was even faster than I’d expected, only about 30 minutes, and we were not going at top speed yet. I’m looking forward to experiencing the full 180 mph when we go all the way from Kaohsiung back to Taipei. I’ve noticed that as we reach around the halfway point of our visit, I keep adding increasingly more things to my bucket list despite having less and less time to do them all. This is definitely a country I could see myself visiting again in […]
