Day 5: University of the Arts and Nightlife

Today, we decided to visit the Taipei National University of the Arts with a former student, David, and a current student, Daniel. They were happy enough to volunteer to show us around their campus and the contributions the students have made towards their artistic journey. We were shown around a couple of the exhibits created by students and the art was astounding and also a little perplexing. The exhibit displayed art from many different methods of art storytelling. Some told a more personal story with its art, like the history of important figures and/or family members and their life in […]

Day 4:Tech Convention and Shrimp Fishing

While I have been a fan of the cultural impact and the religious significance of the country, the technology side has always been a favorite for me as I have always loved computers and gaming since I was a kid. The tech convention we went to exemplified how important Taiwan actually is on the global scale. We went to convention with a member of Gigbyte, a computer manufacturing company that, with the help of Nvidia, work on the production and creation of computer chips. They talked about the what goes on in the process for making computer softwares and their […]

Taiwan: Day 11 – Kaohsiung Temples & Beach

Our second day in Kaohsiung was more packed with activities. We started the day with visiting a pond surrounded by temples and pagodas, and explored the famous Dragon and Tiger Pagodas. There were large “statues” of a dragon and tiger on the entrances of both buildings, and we entered through their mouths to get in. The pagodas had 7 floors and had really gorgeous interiors and exteriors. There was also a great view of the pond, mountains, and cities outside, and I took dozens of pictures to try to capture everything I saw. We headed to two other temples after […]

5/30

Our group spent the majority of our day touring temples and other various religious sites around Kaohsiung. Our first stop was at the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, which were my personal favorite. I really enjoyed being able to walk up and see a 360 view from different stories of the pagoda.  We walked along the river to other religious sights, including two temples. In the second temple, Professor Chen pointed out an interesting observation: many of the temples are very similar, yet appear very frequently in cities. Therefore, why are there so many of them? Professor Chen also questioned their […]

Taiwan Day eleven (5/30)

Today (5/30), we were able to sleep in before we headed off to the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas. I thought this was such an interesting place to see because it was a lot different then places we have previously seen. When we walked through the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas it was interesting to see the sides around us lined with folk stories. I thought the way the stories were interesting and as you walked through you were able to see how they progressed. We then walked over to the Zuoying Yuandi Temple which was especially interesting because it was a […]

Pandas, Processors & Prawns – Day 4 of Simple Joys in Taiwan – Day 4 {5/23}

I’m back again with another story to tell. Today was quite a light day, with even some time in the morning to explore on your own. And explore I did. By 8, I was out the door and where did I go first… to eat of course! I headed over to Liu Shandong Beef Noodles, considered to serve one of the single most famous Taiwanese foods, beef noodles. Quite delicious if I do say so myself. Just thinking about it makes me crave another. With some time still on my hands, I decided to explore a bit more of the […]
